Me-Made-May’15

Screen Shot 2015-03-16 at 11.47.13

Originally, I was just going to sneak my pledge into a post about things I’ve sewn, but then I’ve been sewing so much that I haven’t taken any pictures just yet and sure I plan on taking them this week, but then I figure why hide the pledge?

‘I, Andie L., sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’15. I endeavour to wear one made by me garment each day for the duration of May 2015’

I also want to sew twoย dresses during May and anotherย bra. I’ll also be working on my lingerie for the wedding. Here is a crappy sketch of my plan for that:

So, that means by the end of the month I should have: two dresses, two bras, camisole, knickers, and tap pants. Whew. Let’s see if that happens!

I felt like that was click bait: this women pledges to wear me-made garments and sew all the things and you won’t believe what happens next!!

Spoiler alert: I die of exhaustion! Yeay! Hahahaha.

Promise I won’t overdo things. ๐Ÿ˜› But I do seem to have a knack for wanting to sew all the things and attempting to do it and then realizing I am not Wonder Woman, don’t I?

I won’t be doing weekly round-ups for MMM’15, but I will be doing a round-up post on June 1 and possible posting a few highlights on Instagram. I don’t want to drown you in posts on MMM’15, if that isn’t your thing.

I’m interested to show you how I wear my garments on a daily basis. It’s pretty similar to how I wore them in my blog photos minus the jewelry. I’m too lazy in the morning to think of jewelry. I barely deal with my hair… #shorthairdontcare

Will you be doing anything for MMM’15? Or will you beย participating in the drinking game? Or both?

  1. I was trying to do the same with the Me Made pledge, ie hide it somewhere haha! I’d like to participate because it sounds fun, but again I will not have enough me made items, but let’s see. Now the drinking game, is hilarious, I’m tempted but I think I will end up in hospital.

    • I am worried I won’t have enough me-made garments either, but I guess that is the purpose of this, right? To see where the holes are in your sewing and make decisions on what is worth it to sew and what isn’t based on how you wear it. I originally had wear something 5 days a week so I am interested to see what happens on the weekend. I fear lots of what I wear will be….um……pj pants. LOL.

I will die if I play that drinking game! ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • I think I will only count the days I actually get dressed to go somewhere, because as you very well point out at the weekend, I will also be in PJs or Hudson pants recovering from the drinking game during the week! Haha! It’s always great to see what other people wear though! Best of luck, and what’s the worse that can happen? More sewing ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I don’t participate in MMM myself as I wear me-made everyday anyway and its not much of a challenge. I do like seeing what people are wearing on IG. How I wear my clothing does not differ much from my blog photos, although if I’m at home and not going anywhere, there are more monetas and less makeup in my rotation.

    • I went back and forth as to whether I would participate, because I thought I wear my me-made garments all the time, like you. But I thought about it over April and paid attention to what I was wearing. I don’t always wear my own garments, especially on the weekend and sometimes mid-week. So, I decided to see where the gaps are in my wardrobe. Strangely, I think they are in lack of dresses… lol I’m interested to see it documented. Not sure if I will participate next year, but I am interested in seeing it this year. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. So according to the drinking game, I need to take a shot and shotgun something just from reading your post! And its only 9:30 AM and not even may. Whew! I typically love participating but I haven’t really thought too much about it yet, shit has been a bit crazy around here. Last year, I did one garment per day and it worked out pretty well. I’m thinking this year I’ll do one garment per day plus 1 or 2 days with all me made, including undies. I know that I have major wardrobe gaps in sweaters/cardis and pants, but I’m not yet sure if thats something I want to fix. I have made some cardis and I know I can make some more, but there are some RTW aspects that we just can’t mimic at home. I’m really enjoy not ever wearing pants so I’m not super sure I’m motivated to sew any, but I think (fingers crossed) that I’m about to have a new job that may require me to wear pants again, so I might need to get motivated to make some. I can’t imagine trying to shop for clothes now! Well, apparently I have a lot to say on the subject. Maybe I’ll resurrect the ol’ blog.

    • It’s not May yet so you are safe! Don’t shotgun your drink yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That sounds like a great goal. ๐Ÿ™‚ I would 100% read all your posts if you did resurrect the ol’ blog, but it’s not something I will push. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • haha, thanks andie! I’ve found instagram to be such a good and fun way to interact with people immediately that I let the blog fall by the wayside. I’m really uncertain if I want to resurrect it or not. Sometimes it would be nice to have a place to discuss a project in more detail.

      • I love instagram! It’s a great way to do microblogging and show construction shots or ask questions in the moment. The blog, though, for me is for more in-depth looks at garments and mainly for myself so I can see my progress and go back to see what changes I made while constructing the garment. I enjoy both platforms, but I do find blogging can be tough to do, especially when I want quality pictures and content. So sometimes it gets neglected because of my energy levels or that I am sewing instead! When it comes down to it, I just love to see what your making and, if you did write more on it, I would love to read that too! ๐Ÿ™‚ Bonus Megan. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. The drinking game infographic is funny. I have not the liver for that sort of thing, getting tipsy after 1/2 a drink, but it’s a fun read!

I always forget how much blogging MMM requires. On one hand, it provides a great opportunity to meet new people and interact with them on their blogs. On the other hand, I know how long it takes for me to take pictures, write about them, edit everything and publish, and I have other projects I’d like to get done during May too, adding to my writing load. I might be troubleshooting ways to keep myself sane.

Good luck with your own goals! I’d looking forward to reading your progress.

    • I literally fill ill after a sip of alcohol so….. I will not be drinking much for MMM’15, sadly. Although, it’s really alcohol poisoning waiting to happen with that game!

Good luck to you, too! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. At the snail pace at which I am producing garments, I can forget about MMM for the next five years, lol, and that drinking game…I’ll die… How is the wedding dress progressing? The lingerie designs are looking good!

    • I dunno, Marike, you sew at a pretty good pace. You might not be ready this year, but maybe next. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wedding dress is going well. Around halfway done. I will probably get it done in the next week or so. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • It didn’t go as well as hoped – we had an unseasonally warm May! So it should have been verging on Winter, but it felt more like early Autumn and meant I had very few opportunities to wear my scarves and hats. I probably won’t do it this year but I’m looking forward to following along with everyone else’s Me Made May adventures.

  6. That drinking game is hilarious. Tea counts, right? I’ll totally shotgun some tea.

I’m participating this year, with a pledge to wear two sewn/crocheted/jewellery items every day. I think I have enough separates now that I can do that.

I think people focus too much on the public documentation part, which is not required at all. I do it because deep down I’m probably a wee bit of an exhibitionist, but nobody has to even take pictures to participate. Also, you don’t have to commit to wearing stuff you’ve made every day. The first year I participated, I only committed to 2-3 days a week. Whatever works for you.
